It's hard to imagine a worse case for profiling than that one. You identify the data points you want to use by the result, i.e. the involvement of your hated minority makes it a data point, and otherwise they have little in common. Tim McVeigh is not on the list nor are the guys who hijacked and crashed Ethiopian Airlines Flight 767 in 1996 near Moroni, Comoros Islands or the disgruntled USAir emplyee who hijacked and crashed a Pacific Southwest airliner in California in 1987.

You just narrowed the list of suspects for 60 randomly chosen crimes to hundreds of millions of people distributed through 85 countries! Way to jump start that investigation! Let's start at "A". Albania, everyone named Achmed, line up. We'll get to Ali soon, don't worry.

But what if they're hiding in Zimbabwe under the name Zarqawi?? We're screwed! We won't be interviewing them for another 2000 years.

Even if you DID profile them, your chances of successfully identifying a terrorist (or assassin or hijacker or whatever) on that basis would be so microscopic that you would definitely do better by picking a name at random out of a Saudi Arabian phone book, going to the guy's house and shooting him. (I'm not suggesting that you do that, because it might not be received well by the Saudis, but it would certainly be more effective than this bogus profiling.)

This is the most moronic point, and the most feeble basis for it that I have seen in some time. Please tell me that you cut and pasted that from somewhere else, because I do not want to believe you are that...

I had to take the adjective out. This may be a family blog.

I provided a link from which the source material came, making it clear it was not mine.

It is true that some tiny minority of contemporary terrorist actions have been from groups other than young Muslim men. It's also true that some KKK-style cross burnings have been carried out by those other than white males, but if I was trying to prevent future cross burnings I think I would pay more attention to white males than to black females, for example. You obviously disagree, and that's cool.

Your position seems to be that with profiling your chances of catching a terrorist in an airport are microscopic, which may be true. But you are a couple of orders of magnitude more likely to find said terrorist with profiling than you are without it. I find the "you only changed the odds from needle in a haystack to baseball bat in a haystack, so why bother" argumnet uncompelling.
